Getting Started

Scholar Sync connects your WordPress site to real publication data and keeps it current automatically. Setup takes a few minutes.

1. Install and activate

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New and search for "Scholar Sync", or install it from the WordPress.org plugin directory.
  2. Click Activate. A new Scholar Sync menu appears in your admin sidebar.

2. Connect to the Scholar Sync service

The first time you visit a Scholar Sync screen, you'll see a one-time notice asking you to connect your site. This is required before the plugin can look up or sync any researcher data — it generates the API key your site uses to talk to the scholar-sync.org service. Click Allow & Continue to connect.

3. Add your first researcher

  1. Go to Scholar Sync → Add New.
  2. Type the researcher's first and last name and click Search & Add Author.
  3. Scholar Sync shows a list of matching candidates with their publication count, h-index, and affiliations. Click Add next to the correct one.
  4. Their profile, publications, and co-authors are imported automatically.

See Adding a Scholar for what to do if the researcher isn't found automatically.

4. Publish their profile

After a researcher is added you'll land on a preview screen with a ready-made shortcode and a Create Page button. Click Create Page to generate a new page with the shortcode already in place, or copy the shortcode and paste it into any existing post, page, or widget yourself.
